Sports Personality of the Year

Its early in the year I know but some of the candidates for Sports Personality of the Year (SPOTY or SPY for short) are being mentioned and thinking what awards categories there are and I don't think there is much to debate on.

Team of Year will probably be England Cricket team. That could change with decent results in cycling, rowing, athletics or swimming but winning an Ashes series in Australia was some achievement.

Coach of the year is a difficult one and may not yet have been won. Andy Flowers and Charles van Commenee are leading this race. You may not like Charles van Commenee but he is doing a great job and performances are moving into world class territory and credit has to go to him.

Youngster of the Year.  Another tough category and one that may be taken by a young track and fielder at the world championships.

SPOTY. 3rd place I give it to Alistair Cook. A fine year with the bat and records tumbled in that Ashes tour.
2nd place I give to McIlroy and he is unlucky as he had 1st in the bag until The Open. Had he not capitulated in the Masters things would of been done and dusted for him.
1st place can there be any doubt. After a few dodgy years have not seen the expected winner but not just for this year but his well documented ordeal away from golf sees Clarke a landslide winner.

These are subject to change given performances in many fields still to go but the top 3 are going to take some beating.
