Sir David Beckham

I saw a report today that David Beckham could be knighted by the Queen in her new years honours list. Really. Now I'm not putting Beckham down for a second he was an inspiring captain for his country and an icon to kids worldwide. As an ambassador for sport in this country his presence surely helped get the London Olympics although even he wasn't big enough to overcome the bribes of the 2018 World Cup bid.
The problem for me is at his age he is simply to young to be a Sir. I know that sounds wrong or ageist but that is not the case. Maybe I'm from an age not befitting the modern world. He is a deserving OBE and I always thought that then you received the CBE and then a knighthood. I know I'm being old fashioned and I acknowledge his many charity works and football academies he dedicates himself to. If Terry Wogan and David Beckham can become Sirs then why not someone like Ryan Giggs.
I'm not saying that Beckham should not be awarded a knight but just not yet in my eyes. I would hate to think Beckham is only receiving this honour through his friendship with Prince William. David Beckham is someone the British public can be proud of. Nobody would begrudge him a CBE in the new years honours but I feel jumping to the Knight stage is somehow wrong. I don't know. I find myself completely confused as to which way I should lean. As a Manchester United, England and sport fan I'd be delighted for him. The parent part of me is unsure. I wonder if anyone else feels this.
